Why this book and why now?

I love Christmas and have always wanted to write a Christmas story, but in previous years had gotten caught up in other projects or didn’t plan properly so I could have a book going out at this time of the year. This year I had just finished my latest book and was deciding what to write next when I was invited to take part in a Holiday focused book collection with several other Sapphic authors and I jumped at the chance. It was just perfect timing.

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

I think we would. The characters in this book are pretty laid-back and fun people and I would love to spend time with them and be part of their friend group. We also visit one of the main characters’ family for the holidays and her mom and dad are just so funny, supportive and welcoming. The type of people that would go out of their way to make sure you’re having a good time that even if I was shy and awkward at first because I’m an introvert, I would end up feeling at ease with them.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

I think Angie, one of my main characters, would be the type of lesbian who loves watching all the TV Shows with Sapphic characters in them so right now she would be binge watching Warrior Nun and in this past year would have jumped on any new shows that were trending at the time like First Kill or A League of Their Own. Morgan, the other main character, wouldn’t be able to say no to Angie when she wants to watch something and would watch everything with her even if she wasn’t into the show.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

Angie is the one who usually cooks for them. So when Morgan plans a romantic night in and decides she will try cooking for them, everything goes wrong. She would choose a simple dish like pasta and still somehow end up burning it. By the time Angie gets home, the fire alarm is going off and Morgan is trying to push the smoke out the window by waving a dishcloth around. The bottle of wine survives the ordeal and pairs perfectly with take out from their favorite Chinese restaurant.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

Morgan’s family owns an orchard and cidery. And I love apple cider in all its shapes, ways and forms, so it makes sense that would be our drink of choice along with a lot of apple themed food and deserts. I mention a rosé cider in the book and even though I’ve never had it in real life, I assume it’s delicious and since I love rosé wine, I assume I would love rosé cider, too. Rosé cider is made with a variety of apples that have red flesh, which is also pretty cool.
