Why this book and why now?
I always wanted to write, but never had the courage to actually put anything down on paper. When I met my wife (who is French) on holiday, we had a whirlwind romance, which was the inspiration for the theme of the book. I originally began the first chapter all the way back in 2016. It took me several years to muster the confidence to get serious about it. As soon as I got in my stride, the words flew out and I completed the book in a few months. Although the book is fiction, there are many facets of it that ring true for me. Being my debut novel, it, of course, it is special, but it is so much more than that. Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Yes, I think we would. Sam is a laid back woman who has been dealt a harsh hand in the past. Something I can relate to.
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
Whenever I thought about writing, Sam was the first name I always came up with. Not sure why, but it stuck.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Warrior Nun for sure. Strong independent women that rely on their friendship bond to navigate the harsh realities of the world. That would suit Sam. For her, friendship and loyalty are paramount.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake would be my pick for Sam. I think the sarcasm and plot of the book would appeal to her immensely. Anna is a different kettle of fish. She reads a lot, so narrowing it down would be hard, but at a push I would say The Loudest Silence by Olivia Janae. It’s a deep and thought-provoking story which Anna would appreciate.
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Camera, Rum and Charlie! For Sam. Anna would need, Books, wine and Kim.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Spiced Rum and Pepsi all the way! Something deliciously sweet with a kick. That’s how I would describe Sam and Anna, so it’s a fitting drink.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Wow, this is a tough one. For me personally it would have to be Dolly Parton. She’s the Queen of music in my eyes. For Sam and Anna I would choose something pop from the 90’s. A bit of Ace of Base maybe. Sam is a 90’s fan I can imagine her singing and dancing to “All That She Wants.”
