Why this book and why now?

This is the third book in the Memory’s Muses Series, all of which are standalones with crossover characters. Lines of Love features Eris, the Muse of Love, and I couldn’t wait to write her story. In a post-pandemic world, the question of relationships and what love really is drove me to distraction, and using Eris to delve into that question helped me deal with it in the real world! And of course, the logical progression of the series that leads on from the Afterlife, Inc world, where the gods live among us, is to ask: how do you hold the gods accountable? Can you?

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

YES! Absolutely. In fact, Eris’ friends, the ones she goes for long motorcycle rides with, are women I grew up with. I was lucky enough to have a lesbian parent, and that meant I was surrounded with strong women from the time I was born. And Eris, for all her butch studly-ness, is such a marshmallow on the inside. (A lot like my own wife, but don’t tell her that.) And Grace is a tough femme who knows what she wants, but is still conscious of the fact that she’s mortal and having sex with a woman who doesn’t age…at a time in my life when aging is definitely a thing. I loved hanging out with them in the book, and I’d love to do it in real life.

What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?

I think Grace and Eris would want a bed! Eris would be happy to have sex anywhere and everywhere, but Grace wouldn’t want sand in her bits. And when you’re the muse of love, I think being stranded away from civilization would be pretty much perfect. The other two things would be…Eris’s motorcycle, and plenty of books for Grace to read.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

Eris is the Muse of Love, so her planning a romantic night would be too easy, and probably a hard act to follow. But if Grace were going to try, I think she’d set up plenty of candles on the beach, with a huge blanket and plenty of throw pillows to relax on. There’d be wine and non-stinky cheese, plus some light music playing in the background. She’d want to dance barefoot on the beach under the full moon.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

“Get This Party Started” by Pink! I love the big beat and the positive feeling it projects, and I think Eris would be all about the dancing to something that got people moving.
