Why this book and why now?

Whimsical Diva is the fourth book in the romantic suspense Whimsical Dreams series, which centers around a butch-owned protection and security company in the tiny fictional town of Whimsy, Florida. There are nine co-owners, so plans are to write a book for each one of them, plus a tenth final book called Whimsical Dreams, which will wrap up the series. While the books are technically standalone, each book builds on the one before it, so readers must read them in order to have a full understanding of the series.

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

Trillian Dacanay, the head of the Armstrong Protection Services (APS) Data and Technical Security “Geek” crew and I would totally get along because I was an e-commerce business analyst for ten years. We’d have a lot to talk about! And Nova MacLeod, Trill’s girlfriend, is a legendary ice cream artisan and food stylist, and I once did home kitchen testing for Cook’s Illustrated part-time, so we’d have a ton to talk about as well.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Trill would be all about Criminal Minds. She’s the smartest one of the APS management team, in charge of their data and technical analysis, so a show about FBI criminal profilers who are the best behavioral analysts of their kind would have her completely absorbed. As a top food stylist and ice cream artisan, Nova would be addicted to Master Chef, the amateur chef competition.

What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?

Trill loves the entire “Repairman Jack” series by F. Paul Wilson, even though it isn’t sapphic. Jack is an underground mercenary of sorts, hired by everyday people to “fix” situations that can’t be dealt with through legal means. His clients are innocent, desperate citizens being victimized with no one else to turn to, and Trill can totally relate to that, since the APS charter is much the same. Nova isn’t a huge reader, but she has long loved Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters. The coming of age story set in Victorian England appeals to her hidden romantic soul.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

Both Trill and Nova love the theme song from “Bloodline,” “The Water Lets You In” by Book of Fears. It’s a sad, moody, haunting song that packs a huge emotional punch that appeals to both of them.
