Why this book and why now?
This book was just one I couldn’t get out of my head! The plot shifted as it came into focus, but the core idea and the themes felt like they were something I’d been trying to write all along. Woven weaves together, so to speak, all the themes of my previous novels.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
It was initially a missing person story! My first iteration of plot was about August fighting her way back to Clara— searching for her, actually piecing together what happened. As soon as Sunny popped into my mind, that plot was thrown out the window, and there was a major shift in the storyline…
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
August would be big on Modern Family for sure. The familiarity and comforting vibes would absolutely soothe her inner child who was always longing for a big, chaotic family and the stability that comes with it.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Wild Geese by Mary Oliver, easy. August is an over emotional lesbian first and an on-again-off-again poet second, so it’s a no brainer!
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Hot chocolate made with coconut milk, with a dash of vanilla and cinnamon. Something cozy and comforting but still indulgent enough to feel like a mini celebration. Vegan for the lesbians and non alcoholic for the twins. It has the added benefit of making you want to curl up and go to sleep at 9:30pm sharp!
