It’s a busy weekend at IHS headquarters!

Saturdays are when we round up all the sapphic book news from the previous week into one convenient location. Think of it as your personal lesfic directory! After all, we know the weekend is when so many of us are able to unwind for a minute and want to get lost in a good women loving women book. What could be better?

Where the heck was TB?

TB loves exploring places near and far, so we’ve created a weekly game where TB goes on an adventure, snaps some photos, and then lets you guess her location.

Miranda and TB were on the road last weekend for a Golden Crown Literary Society event. On the way back from New Jersey, they did some exploring. Miranda was tired and actually had TB drive and they both live to tell about it.

Here are some facts about one of their stops.

1. It’s a private liberal arts college in Poughkeepsie, New York. By the way, TB loves to say Poughkeepsie.

2. It was founded as a women’s college in 1861 and became coeducational in 1969.

3. The college has one of the largest undergraduate library collections in the U.S.

4. Notable alumni and those who attended include Jane Fonda, Lisa Kudrow, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Meryl Streep, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Jane Smiley, and Anne Hathaway.

5. They’re known as the Brewers, which comes from the college’s founder and namesake, whose family owned a brewery in Poughkeepsie.

For this week’s Sapphic Books in the wild, we took The Beginning of Everything by Cara Malone. The book is a historical romance about finding the courage to come out for love and join the fight for equality. We thought it fitting for one of the earliest colleges for women.
