It’s all jellybeans and Cadbury mini eggs here at IHS Headquarters this weekend!

Saturdays are when we round up all the sapphic book news from the previous week into one convenient location. Think of it as your personal queer directory! After all, we know the weekend is when so many of us are able to unwind for a minute and want to get lost in a good wlw book. What could be better?

TB’s excited for this weekend. If the wind settles down (a big if since she’s convinced she’s accidentally been transported to a planet that’s actually a wind tunnel), she plans to spend her Easter hiking. Later, TB plans to curl up on the couch to read Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur. Miranda will be with family, trying to control the younger members hopped up on sugar. She’s had a lot of practice recently, ever since TB bought a dozen Cadbury Creme Eggs. (In her defense, TB swears they cost less than buying a dozen actual eggs.) Whatever your plans this weekend, we hope you have a wonderful time!

Where the heck was TB?

TB loves exploring places near and far, so we’ve created a weekly game where TB goes on an adventure, snaps some photos, and then lets you guess her location.

To answer last week’s mystery, 61% of you were right. Miranda and I visited the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, an absolutely lovely house, but so sickening opulent it’s hard to believe “normal” people lived there. Also, 14% of you guessed Miranda took the photos inside the home since I struggle with the concept of taking photos in a museum. However, it was me who snapped them, much to Miranda’s shock. I did obsessively check to ensure the flash was off.

Last month, we spent a day in New York City, celebrating Miranda’s birthday.

Here are some facts about one of the historic places we toured.

1. It’s a recreated brownstone at 28 East 20th Street, between Broadway and Park Avenue South, in the Flatiron District of Manhattan, New York City.

2. It was the birthplace and childhood home of the 26th president of the United States.

3. The future president lived in the home until 1872.

4. In 1916, the building was demolished, making room for shops.

5. After the president’s death in 1919, a group purchased the space.

6. Theodate Pope Riddle, a prominent female architect, was put in charge of recreating the house.

7. In 1963 the place was donated to the National Park Service and touring the home with a ranger is free.

Below are some photos taken during the visit, but we didn’t bring a sapphic book with us because we were visiting historic sites and bringing a backpack full of books wasn’t my idea of fun while exploring the city on foot to celebrate Miranda’s birthday.
