Why this book and why now?

The book was inspired by a friend who is going through the same situation. She’s recently divorced, and her pals advise her to get back in the saddle. This woman has tried dating apps and blind dates, only to return home with stories about how they are incompatible. And every time, she swears she’d rather be alone then goes out on another one because she truly wants her “happily ever after.”

Trying to date again, especially after a painful break-up and being on the older side, can be difficult and daunting; I know it would be for me. My younger friends have met on dating apps, and all I hear about is how they “hooked up.” To me, we live in that society now, where it’s difficult to meet people since everything is done online – unfortunately, you never know who’s on the other end of the app when you swipe right.

What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?

Originally, the goal was for the book to be a co-write, with each of us penning half of the dates, resulting in a wide range of pandemonium. Because the co-write didn’t go as planned, I based the date concepts on an online search of “bad blind dates.” I’m not usually a plotter, but in order for the characters to not seem the same, I needed a definite list of dates

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

To be honest, I believe we would. We’re both florists, so that’s something we’d have in common. I’m similar to Michelle, the best friend’s sidekick, in that I’m the one who tells the main character to toss those pesky morals aside and dive into the cesspool of online dating.

Do your character names have special significance or meaning?

Some of the characters names and possible “look” are based on some online friends, if you know, you know… right? (hint hint)

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Probably food network. In the second chapter, you see her trying to a new recipe. I can see her spending more of her evening watching Chopped or Beat Bobby Flay.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it. What do they do?

The main character’s romantic ideals are about the basics. She’s not the type to impress with lavish restaurants, etc. She would rearrange all of the furniture in the living room and lay out a blanket, find an old basket, and put up an indoor picnic with charcuterie and wine.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” The lyrics speak for themselves… It’s about a crazy woman and the strange things she makes you go through. This is exactly what my main character did with all of her disastrous dates, even those that crushed her heart. And, aside, I am a die-hard Ricky fan.
