Why this book and why now?

The inspiration of this book came from my childhood. My mom was a dressage trainer and I used to spend a lot of time at the stables, riding these beautiful horses and hanging out. While the setting and some of the characters are inspired from real-life experiences, I am not much of a planner when it comes to writing. I had so much fun letting the characters make their own choices- some comical, some not-so-much, and letting them drive the direction of the story. I love to make people laugh, so I try to infuse funny situations into my plot whenever I can. I could never get away with some of these things in real-life, so I really enjoy watching my characters get themselves into (and try to get out of!) some of the sticky situations that they find themselves in.

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

I have two main characters in this book, Valerie and Kim. Valerie and I would get along well – nothing to see here, folks. Kim and I? Now that’s a different story. She is passionate, beautiful, fun, and driven…as well as jealous, impulsive and quick-tempered. And when she’s dealing with any negative emotion; she drinks. And when she drinks, well, it can be pretty funny. But don’t take my word for it…experience her for yourself…just don’t get too close!

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

My main character, Valerie, would binge watch the reality tv show Fear Factor, because she is such a great athlete. She can’t stop herself from watching it because she is so competitive and likes to fantasize that she is on the show. She knows she’d win. Except for the episodes where she has to lie in a snake pit. That one makes her happy she rides horses.

What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?

Kim’s favorite book during the story is any type of self-help book. She struggles with her choices and her fall from grace. She is not sure how to cope with her new status in life and the fact that she is a now a horse-loving-lesbian with a possible drinking problem!

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

Valerie and Kim were both straight until they fell for each other. The song that they rock out to at the launch party, is of course, Katy Perry’s, “I Kissed a Girl and I Liked it”!
