Why this book and why now?
When I came up with TWOS, it was just a way for me to bring together all the things I was obsessed with at the time. It was inspired by such a range of things, from Howl’s Moving Castle to Måneskin winning Eurovision that year. The struggle between queerness and faith in the novel is also very personal to me, and I think it was just the right time for me to write about it.
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
Yes! Isa’s name is based on a certain character from the Bible. Honestly, I came up with it so long ago, I hardly remember why I thought it was a good idea. I won’t spell it out, but if you put her first name and her last name together…
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Safia would be a shameless reality TV consumer. She’d love Love Island. Isa would claim not to be interested in TV but secretly be obsessed with anything true crime.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Safia would be a romantasy girlie. She’d have devoured all the ACOTAR books. Isa likes to read the Modar, which is her faith’s equivalent of the Bible. Maybe she reads a dictionary from time to time.

Safia can definitely hold her drink and would probably make some dangerously strong fruity cocktails – like a deceptively strong pornstar martini. Isa would drink a glass of water and leave early.
