Why this book and why now?
Lauren’s story was always planned as book three in the Branded Hearts series, following Charlie and Jenna, and ahead of Naomi. Charlie was book one because I felt I knew her best – we share the same career; the other three then decided the order for themselves. Why now? I still work full time in education, as part of the senior leadership team at my school, so writing isn’t something I get to do as frequently or consistently as I would like. I chip away when I can, writing more during holidays. I’d have liked less of a gap between books 2 and 3, but school didn’t allow for that!
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Lauren, Tallie and I would get along famously. We adore our pooches and love walking in the countryside. Lauren’s dog, Mirren, is based on my Black Lab, Cade, who sadly passed on just a few days after I published book two in the series (the book where Mirren made her first appearance) and started on book 3. Being able to write Mirren helped massively in dealing with the huge hole left by Cade. They both also enjoy yoga, are passionate about Scandinavian design, and are serious about sustainability, all of which are passions of mine, too.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
The Bridge (original Danish & Swedish version). They would love the drama amidst the Scandinavian setting.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Tallie’s would be The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell, who would enjoy this because it catalogues the author’s experience of moving to Denmark when her husband gets a job working for Lego (which I’m super jealous of – I love Lego!). Lauren’s would be The Secret Therapy of Trees by Marco Mencagli and Marco Nieri, which is where she learned about forest bathing, which fascinated her and me.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Personally, I never celebrate anything with more than a cup of tea, so I’ve had to do some Googling to work this out! According to my quick research, Tallie would be raising a Fjellbekk, which is apparently the most popular cocktail in Norway (Tallie’s preferred Scandinavian country). I think Lauren be happiest with a decadent hot chocolate, complete with mini marshmallows.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Lauren and Tallie have a conversation in the book about their love of country music (which they stole from me), in particular the band Little Big Town (who I’m getting to see for the first time in September – can’t wait!), so it would definitely be one of their songs. Probably Happy People.
