Why this book and why now?
It’s all about representation. I grew up reading murder mysteries, many with M/F romance arcs that fell flat for me. I didn’t find lesbian detective protagonists until the early nineties even though several fabulous series were available a decade earlier (I lived in rural NE). When I was introduced to Sandra Scoppettone, Laurie King, and Katherine V. Forrest novels, I gobbled them up. Their characters lived full lives and loved their careers and other women. Sloane West is an offering to keep lesbian representation strong in the crime genre I love.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Oh, yeah. I’d love to hang out with their coven and solve crimes with Sloane. A witch and a PI—what a life.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Sloane and Bear/Elvina have spent many nights binge watching TV on the sofa for years. Their go-to shows are Netflix original thriller and mystery series, especially those adapted from novels.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.
I would love to see Elvina plan a romantic night for a love interest. Food symbolizes affection for her so she would host an evening around a fabulous meal, served in a low-light room in front of a roaring fire in the fireplace. Elvina spent most of her life as a familiar, using her body to comfort and protect, so after dinner, she’d massage her love’s feet and shoulders while they relaxed on a sofa, watching a movie, or talking.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Sloane would toast with an Irish whiskey neat; uncomplicated like how she longs for life to be.
