Every week, we’ll provide five clues about a sapphic author. This game helps readers get to know their favorite authors while having fun.
Here is today’s clue:
Clue #5: For my latest book, I booked a cruise to do research but it was canceled two days before departure. Since the trip was 100% refunded and we already had the time off work, my wife, mother, and I went to Las Vegas instead.

5 Random Things is our way of helping readers to get to know top sapphic book authors all the while having a bit of fun.
Here are five random facts about Dana Hawkins.
1. Several years ago, I “met” the actor Craig Robinson in a park in Seattle. I use the term “met” loosely as we chatted briefly, and I proceeded to giggle, freak out, and ask if he wanted to babysit my children. #fail
2. I did not sit down and start writing until after I turned 40.
3. Tator-tot hotdish (go Minnesota!) is the best dish ever invented and I challenge anyone who says differently.
4. In the 90s I was an audience member on the Jerry Springer show. For those who don’t know what this is, I definitely recommend googling.
5. I have seen the New Kids on the Block in concert more than twenty times. The shows bring up so many great childhood memories!
Have you read So Not My Type yet?

Before buying a “free” book, please ensure it’s free in your marketplace. Amazon has a habit of changing the price of permafree titles in stores outside of the US. Please know this it out of the author’s control and we are unable to check prices in all Amazon stores.
Some of the books are only free today, January 10, 2024, so don’t miss out!

Meet Gabby! Gabby is a rescue dog, probably Staffy-Bullmastiff-cross. At her fav local beach and no amount of stick retrieval or chewing can ever wear her out, despite her progressing years. She doesn’t so much bark as woo-woo. Submitted by Kim Hunt, a sapphic author.

HAVE YOU VOTED IN THE LATEST BOOKS OF THE MONTH POLL?
Voting for December Books of the Month closes on January 31.
QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE
It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.
This week’s good news involves the US Defense Department.
The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has agreed to resolve a lawsuit brought by LGBTQ+ veterans who were discharged due to policies like “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” which prohibited them from serving openly.
As part of the settlement, pending approval by a federal judge, the DOD will simplify the process for gay, lesbian, and bisexual veterans with honorable discharges to obtain updated documentation that omits any mention of their sexual orientation as the basis for their discharge.
This is great news and we want to thank everyone for their service. You’re true heroes!
Find out more here.
That’s all for today.
Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
