Happy weekend!
Saturdays are when we curate all the sapphic book news and queer happenings of the week into one convenient location. Think of it as your personal reading directory! After all, we know the weekend is when so many of us are able to unwind for a minute and want to get lost in a good woman loving woman book. What could be better?
In today’s post, you’ll find cheerful LGBTQ+ news stories to combat all the negative ones bombarding our screens.
Sapphic reader Nicole shares a Caturday photo of two sweet kitties.
One of the things we love about the weekly lesfic author selfie is getting to know the personality behind the words. Check out the picture of Iris Eliot with the book Out There.
Finally, scroll to the bottom of the post to see photos of a cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York.
Before we get to today’s post, it’s time to reveal the identity of this week’s Guess the Author!
Every week we provide five clues about a sapphic author. On Saturday, we reveal the author’s identity.
Before we unveil this week’s author, here are all 5 clues in case you missed them:
1. When I was 12, I watched my father win a bikini contest (there were about 2 dozen contestants) wearing my mother’s bikini. It was my idea to tuck dollar bills in the waistband.
2. I once sustained a concussion at work. I don’t remember this clearly, but I’m told I talked about fish while my best friend was on her way to pick me up. Then in the Emergency Room, I kept talking to myself and asking for fried chicken because I could smell fried chicken. Note: there was no fried chicken in the vicinity according to my BFF.
3. My first attempt at eating lobster resulted in me flinging a significant piece of tail meat across several busy tables. I was too embarrassed to look around to see where it landed. In retrospect, I don’t think it was prepared in the best manner and I shouldn’t have only used my tiny fork to get it loose.
4. The first book I wrote became my third book published. Most of this was because it was my first effort at writing a novel, so there was a lot to learn, but also because I concluded the story would be more interesting if I told it from the other main character’s point of view (POV) and ditched the convention of including the two love interests POV.
5. For my latest book, I booked a cruise to do research but it was canceled two days before departure. Since the trip was 100% refunded and we already had the time off work, my wife, mother, and I went to Las Vegas instead.
Now it’s time to reveal their name. Drum roll please…
This week’s author is Serena J. Bishop!
Check out Project O.R.C.A., Serena’s new release!
Power does not mean control
Kari’s telepathic abilities have made life challenging for her. At eighteen and a recent university graduate, she’s desperate to leave home and work in neuroscience. Will a position at inCog help her explore where her abilities come from and how to better control them? She doesn’t know.
But she’s going to find out.
A new job, a new life, and a fresh start on a cruise ship turned business park await her. It’s a thrilling time. But little does she know the excitement will not stop until the ship’s owner’s goals are met. Henry, a billionaire with an interest in unusual sciences, has unique plans for her. Neuroscientist by day, telepathic spy by night. It’s not all bad, though; her clandestine work allows her to see more of the world, receive funding for ORCA, and expose the injustices committed by the affluent.
But the more she delves into the thoughts of the super wealthy, the more dangerous her new life becomes. Soon she has to ask herself, is the money for ORCA worth the risk?
“Now the real science begins . . .”
