Why this book and why now?
I knew this book (book 4 in the lighthouse series) was going to be a fun one. I wanted to write about a sapphic friends with benefits turned romance because the last time I did, it was a lot of fun. I also wanted two characters that seemed like total opposites on the surface to come together and realize that even though they are different, they don’t need to change as much as they thought.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Me and Kim would now that she’s a bit more open to adventures. I’m not so sure about Zara and I because we are very similar personality wise and that might clash in real life.
Did any real-life events or personal experiences influence the story?
Yes! In one of the chapters, the main characters attempt to carve their names into a tree. As my ex and I learned, that’s much more difficult than I thought. It’s not simple like they always make it seem in movies! Plus Kim is a HUGE Harry Styles fan, which I’ve been on a Harry Styles music kick recently. He’s just so kindhearted and beautiful.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Zara is totally binging You for hot stalker/murderer inspirations for her romances.
Did any of your characters surprise you by developing in unexpected ways?
Yes! There’s a scene that is almost repeated but you see it from another character’s point of view. I wrote it and realized it holds a deeper meaning for when I write Book 5, Love Unexpected because the FMC in that book sees the way the main characters in this story love each other and know she deserves better.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
It’s very much the vibe of the book as well as the vibe of this book. If I ever retitled it, it would be called “adore you”.
Your characters are throwing a party—what’s the theme?
Kim totally convinces Zara to do a Harry Styles themed party.
Do you have any writing rituals or habits?
I used to eat gummy bears, but I recently went Gluten free and I was not happy to find out most gummy bears contain gluten. So now I chew gum and drink iced coffee.

I’m about to start an ARC of The Next Chapter by Camille Kellogg
