Why this book and why now?
I’ve been through a challenging moment in my life, and I just wanted to write something soft, fun, and with enough yearning to keep me entertained. And Held In Her Storm provided just that. Yes, there’s some high stakes and tense moments, but overall it’s a very easy going book.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
There’s a specific character that, in the beginning, was soft and sweet, but as I kept writing I realized she was meant to be the fun, chaotic character. Thus, Willow was born. She’s fun and chaotic in a way that (I hope) is not forced. She’s kinda random at times, but she means well.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
I’d get along swimmingly with Selene and Willow. Ellara? Not so much. I love the closed off woman thing in books. The bad girl, the ice queen. But IRL I wear my heart on my sleeve too much and I just prefer people to be open and honest about how they feel.
How does it feel to finally share this book with readers?
Exciting! I’ve been writing (fanfics) for YEARS and it just feels like such a big accomplishment to have my own world and my own characters reach the public instead of just writing about character people already know and love.
What’s one fun fact about your book that most people wouldn’t know?
I have ADHD, and I had some serious hyper focus writing the book. This baby was written in less than a month total.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
I feel like Selene would LOVE Game Of Thrones. The whole politics of it. She’s a very politically inclined girl.
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
For Selene? Definitely Ellara and Willow. That, and a book. She’d be set. She never felt at home in her own kingdom, but she does with Ellara and Willow. I feel like anywhere would be home for her as long as she had them. (That, and the two of them have magic)
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.
I feel like Ellara would go all out for Selene. She’d gather the most beautiful luminescent magical creatures just to light up the night for Selene. She’d have the most exotic foods, and wonderful music. She’d want to make it magical since Selene never experienced much magic before meeting her.
Were there any scenes or characters that surprised you as you wrote?
Oh, yes. One of the villains. She doesn’t show up that much, but when she does, the story of how she already knew Ellara just showed up unannounced as I was writing. That’s in one of the last chapters, though.
Which character was the most fun to write, and which was the hardest?
Willow. She’s just so fun to write. She’s light, and a bit wild, and unbothered, and just so… I don’t know. She’s exactly like a best friend should be, IMO.
If you could spend a day with one character from the book, who would it be and why?
Again, Willow. She’s just so fun. I think I’d have a blast with her.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Well, they’re definitely wine people. But me? I’d personally choose caipirinhas for all of them.
If your book had a scent, what would it smell like?
Freshly cut grass. Or the smell after it rains near a forest.
If your book had an official mascot, what (or who) would it be?
Oh, the Nyathel. A specific bird/god/thing from the book. But also, just think birds in general.
Do you outline your books in detail, or do you prefer to discover the story as you write?
I outline them VERY loosely. I don’t do well following a detailed outline.
Do you have any writing rituals or habits?
I always write listening to music. Epic music, to be specific.
