SapphFic Mischief Saturday Morning Graphic
Happy weekend!

Saturdays are when we curate all the sapphic book news and queer happenings of the week into one convenient location. Think of it as your personal reading directory! After all, we know the weekend is when so many of us are able to unwind for a minute and want to get lost in a good woman loving woman book. What could be better?

In today’s post, you’ll find cheerful LGBTQ+ news stories to combat all the negative ones bombarding our screens.

Sapphic reader Fiona S shares a Caturday photo of her kitty in front of the only Christmas tree that Fiona trusts her cat with.

One of the things we love about the weekly author selfie is getting to know the personality behind the words. Check out the picture of Eline Evans with The Music Room.

If you’re looking for something to read this weekend, below you’ll find 11 books on sale.

Finally, scroll to the bottom of the post to see photos from TB and Miranda’s visit to a holiday festival in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

Guess the Author GraphicIt’s time to reveal the identity of this week’s Guess the Author!

Every week we provide five clues about a sapphic author. On Saturday, we reveal the author’s identity.

Before we unveil this week’s author, here are all 5 clues in case you missed them:

1. I grew up in New Jersey and blame that for my attitude problem.

2. My first book was published in 2013 and is a New Adult friends-to-lovers novel.

3. As a kid I wanted to be a Paleontologist because I was (and still am) obsessed with dinosaurs.

4. I’m a huge Boston Red Sox fan.

5. My upcoming book is my first science fiction novel.

Now it’s time to reveal their name. Drum roll please…

This week’s author is Kristen Zimmer!

Check out Reclamation, Kristen Zimmer’s new release!

Cover of Reclamation

Knowledge is power, but it isn’t yours to keep.

Kristen Zimmer, author of The Gravity Between Us, When Sparks Fly, and Forbidden Girl takes readers on an adrenaline-fueled dystopian journey into the future where a scrappy band of rebels rise up to bring down an unequal and unrelenting government.

This is your future.

The United States of America has been gone for over a century.

In its place, The Unified American Territories—a nation divided, the impoverished and the wealthy are separated by a looming steel wall. In the Northern Territories—The Vault, as it is known by its inhabitants—the government rules with an iron fist: All citizens are tested for intelligence and aptitude, thrust into compulsory higher education and saddled with insurmountable debt. All student loans are granted and controlled by a branch of the regime called The Federal Bureau of Education. Failure to repay their debt consigns borrowers to the Knowledge Reclamation Process, a mysterious government-sanctioned brainwashing program that strips them of their education with dire mental and physical side effects.

Fletcher Daniels is a recent college graduate struggling to stay ahead of her arrears. After a visit from Reclamation Agents, she knows her life is about to change for the worse. Enter Youth Opposed to Reclamation, a scrappy band of rebels who try in their own small way to bring some relief to the people of The Vault by smuggling as many potential Reclaimees to safety as possible. When Fletcher meets and falls for fellow female YOR member, Sparrow, her world is twisted away from the one she once knew even more radically. The group offers Fletcher a chance to escape her fate, but through them, she sees the promise of bringing real change to The Vault. History has taught her that even the smallest rebellions can trigger revolutions. It’s time for history to repeat itself.

Kristen Zimmer’s bio:

Kristen Zimmer doesn’t write quiet stories. She writes queer women who love hard, fight harder, and set fire to every box the world tries to shove them into. Her debut, The Gravity Between Us, became a breakout hit, topping Amazon’s Lesbian Fiction and Romance charts for twelve weeks and earning praise from USA Today and Reader’s Digest. When Sparks Fly kept the fire going, soaring to no. 1. Her third novel, Forbidden Girl, is a sapphic mafia romance that bleeds power, passion, and rebellion.

Kristen lives in Salem, Massachusetts-home of the witch trials and an enduring reminder that punishing powerful women is nothing new. Her books are a loud, proud act of resistance in a time when queer and feminist voices are under attack. She’s not writing for permission-she’s writing for those who refuse to apologize for who they are.

Monday kicks off a fresh Guess the Author game!

Meet Amy the cat

Meet Amy! Amy is my Covid-era rescue from the RSPCA who helped keep me company during the seemingly never-ending lockdowns here in Victoria, Australia. This is my cat-friendly Christmas Tree (I simply don’t trust her with a real one). Submitted by Fiona S, a sapphic reader.

The Music Room by Eline Evans graphic

Have you read The Music Room by Eline Evans yet? Here’s the tagline: Elinor’s life is perfect – she’s a successful violinist and she’s finally found love, but how far will she go to save her sister?

TB and Miranda love exploring places near and far, almost as much as they love a good sapphic book. Follow them on their travels!

TB here.

Last weekend, we went to Stockbridge, Massachusetts for the recreation of Norman Rockwell’s Christmas on Main Street painting. I’ve been wanting to go to this festival for years, but it always falls on the same weekend as The Nutcracker, which Miranda’s youngest always performs in. This year, the stars aligned and we were able to fit in The Nutcracker and the festival. It was a real kick to see all the old cars on the street, like in this painting.

Here are some of the photos I took.

Have a wonderful weekend!
