Why this book and why now?
Big Oil, with all its environmental impacts, is currently getting a boost from the government. A former colleague of mine stood up to them and paid for it. Their story was not mine to tell, but it inspired me to write this fictional one.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
I struggled with how to end the book, but during my morning pool workout, it suddenly came to me. Before I even dried off, I had to write it, and my beta readers loved it.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Absolutely. My main character Jo, is an avatar for who I would have been in my alternative career.
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
Jo is my middle name.
Did any real-life events or personal experiences influence the story?
Yes, my character, Tori, is modeled after my physician colleague who was arrested for bank robbery.
How does it feel to finally share this book with readers?
I continue to learn writing craft, and this book reflects that learning.
Is there anything you wish readers knew before diving into this book?
Don’t start reading it late at night
Were there any scenes or characters that surprised you as you wrote?
The ending surprised even me.
If your book were to be adapted into a movie or TV show, who would be your dream cast?
Kate Blanchard would play Tori
Jo would be played by Suranne Jones (the lead in Gentleman Jack)
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
She’s On My Mind by Romy. Because Tori has Jo on her mind and wishes they were more than friends.
Were there any books, movies, or personal experiences that influenced this story?
Yes, my physician colleague who stood up to Big Oil was arrested for bank robbery.
