Why this book and why now?

I’m obsessed with sapphic witches, and the obsession has only gotten worse since I saw Agatha All Along. I wished we could get a super spicy version of that show, complete with the toxic sapphic villainess with no desire for redemption. So, to quote Toni Morrison, “If there’s a book you think you want to read that has not been written yet, then you must write it.”

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

Julia is toxic af but also has that sexy middle-aged confidence that I’m a sucker for, so… I think I’d probably be in the same position as Hannah, wanting to hate her but helplessly drawn to her.

How does it feel to finally share this book with readers?

I’m SO excited because this is the smuttiest book I’ve ever written, and also my first dark romance! When I started writing, my books were YA Fantasy with sweet romance, so it’s been really fun to write spicier scenes and see the high-heat books resonate with readers just as much.

What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?

Hannah would bring a stack of books since she’s a book nerd, her phone so she could call or text her bestie, and… Julia’s cloak 🙂

Which character was the most fun to write, and which was the hardest?

Julia was definitely the most fun. I’ve always loved female villains and being able to write one as the main character was a blast. She was also the hardest because I wanted her to have an arc while still staying true to who she is. You don’t want a villain to get soft, but you don’t want them to be 100% unlikeable either.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

“Gives You Hell” because the story takes place in 2009 and this song makes an appearance.

If your book had a scent, what would it smell like?

Woodsmoke and apple cinnamon tea.

Do you outline your books in detail, or do you prefer to discover the story as you write?

I outline in detail. I like to nail down the plot before I start writing so I don’t waste time going on tangents that might get cut later. It also frees up my creativity when I know where I’m going and what each scene needs to accomplish.

What are you currently reading?

Loser of the Year by Carrie Byrd. So good!
