Why this book and why now?
I took time off from writing the last quarter of 2025 because I wanted to write something fresh and new. “When We Were Gods” required a lot of research and soul searching. In 2025 I wrote two Bestsellers and one Best New Release: Left for Dead, My Sister’s Keeper, and Relative strangers. I try to write books that are between 285 and 300 plus pages to give the readers their money’s worth. During December thoughts and scenes kept coming to me for “When We Were Gods.” I started writing them down and in January I began organizing them into an outline and finally writing the book. It just seems to flow easily and write itself. That is how I like my books to work. So now is the right time to write the book and share it with my wonderful readers. Who doesn’t like the immortals?
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
While my main characters are definitely fighters, they have developed a tender, more patient attitude toward mankind.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
We would certainly get along although I find I have to restrain Faith from doing what I would do in some of the situations she encounters. She is all powerful and could easily take out anyone and anything but controls her temper. I’m not that much in control when confronted with wrong.
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
Faith Seraph is an angel (Seraphs are the apex of angels) She has every faith that she can win in any situation and doesn’t hesitate to use her powers. Destiny is a doctor who is also a witch. She tries to restrain the use of her powers and handle everything in a mortal way. Faith tries to convince her that her powers were given to her for a purpose and she should use them.
How does it feel to finally share this book with readers?
I am excited about this book. It takes readers on a roller coast ride throughout the universe and earth. This book is true romantic fantasy and action/adventure fantasy. I just let my mind go with what felt right and good.
Is there anything you wish readers knew before diving into this book?
Set aside time to read it without interference. I hope you won’t be able to put it down.
What’s one fun fact about your book that most people wouldn’t know?
The cat is my favorite character
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Xena – Warrior Princess.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
The Bible. It confuses her because she has always existed, before there was an earth, before there was a universe. She can’t figure out where she came from and she fears she may be a god.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.
Faith would take Destiny into the universe and hold her hand as she points out the wonders of the world and how insignificant they are compared to the universe. She would make love to her as they float in the Milky Way Galaxy.
Which character do you relate to the most, and why?
Faith. She is powerful and cuts through the smoke screens thrown up by mankind.
Were there any scenes or characters that surprised you as you wrote?
Yes. I did not have the black cat in my outline. She just appeared and became a dominant character.
Which character was the most fun to write, and which was the hardest?
The most fun to write was Venus, the black cat. The hardest to write was Destiny because in the end, she was their destiny.
If your book were to be adapted into a movie or TV show, who would be your dream cast?
Sidney Sweeny would be perfect for Destiny the witch. Odette Annable for Faith the angel.
Did any of your characters surprise you by developing in unexpected ways?
Yes, Venus, the cat started out to just be Destiny’s pet but morphed into something else entirely.
If you could spend a day with one character from the book, who would it be and why?
Venus, the cat
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Always Dr Pepper
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Any Dream Will Do because it seems that all things are possible for the main characters, maybe.
If your book had a scent, what would it smell like?
Chanel No. 5
If your book had a signature dessert, what would it be?
Tiramisu
Your characters are throwing a party—what’s the theme?
Roman Gods
If your book had an official mascot, what (or who) would it be?
A cat – Fast Eddie (my big black cat)
Do you outline your books in detail, or do you prefer to discover the story as you write?
I begin with an outline, then at some point the story takes over and writes its self.
Do you have any writing rituals or habits?
I write late into the night after my wife goes to sleep and during the day when she is at school. She is a principal. I try to spend as much time as possible with her.
Who are your biggest literary influences?
Agatha Christi, Freida McFadden, Mary Higgins Clark
If you could have dinner with any author, living or dead, who would it be?
Mary Shelley author of Frankenstein
