Halo

Released: Apr 07, 2026
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Why this book and why now?
Honestly? It’s inspired by KPop Demon Hunters and Sailor Moon. I’ve rewatched both of those so many times. I couldn’t get the idea for Halo (and the rest of the series) out of my head. It felt like the best next thing to write.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
Originally, the idea was going to be a standalone or a duology with Kaia and Evie as the main characters. However, as I started fleshing out the idea, I fell in love with the side characters (Jules, Remy, and Mina). I decided that they need their own books too! In doing so, Halo changed as well.
How does it feel to finally share this book with readers?
It’s so surreal that it’s finally out in the world. I’m so grateful to everyone who reads. I’m equal parts excited and nervous for people to read it, but that’s how I always feel. Every book release comes with both excitement and nerves. To everyone who gives Halo a chance, thank you so much!
Is there anything you wish readers knew before diving into this book?
Yes! This book has a resolved main conflict and a HEA for Kaia and Evie. However, it is book one of a trilogy for the overarching conflict. But don’t worry, there isn’t a cliffhanger.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.
Kaia would make their place feel like a sanctuary: lights low, phones off, candles, and comfort food from a tiny Korean spot she trusts. She would probably place a handwritten note (love letter) under Evie’s plate. Then, after they eat, she’d put on some music and teach Evie the choreo to a silly dance she made up as a trainee. She loves to hear Evie laugh and would strive for it.
Were there any scenes or characters that surprised you as you wrote?
I did not intend to write the Ferris wheel scene at all, so that one surprised me most. As I was writing Halo, I realized that Kaia and Evie would definitely have ridden the Ferris wheel together as teens… and once some of their walls came down, it made sense for them to ride it again as adults. There’s something deeply romantic about Ferris wheels to me.
Which character was the most fun to write, and which was the hardest?
I loved writing Jules. She is pure chaos gremlin, but also deeply cares about the other girls. The hardest to write would have to be Devin. He’s inspired by the managers I had when I was in sales.
If your book had a scent, what would it smell like?
Salty ocean air, pines, and coffee. It would smell like a coastal small town.
If your book had a signature dessert, what would it be?
Blueberry pancakes with too much syrup. Pancakes come up a lot in my book. They’re such a good comfort food in all their forms.
Do you outline your books in detail, or do you prefer to discover the story as you write?
I definitely outline. Halo Hearts is an interconnected series, so I HYPER outlined this one. I wanted to make sure that any foreshadowing and details for future books was included.
Were there any books, movies, or personal experiences that influenced this story?
KPop Demon Hunters, Sailor Moon, and definitely my love for second chance romance.
Do you have any writing rituals or habits?
Recently, I’ve been working from the library and a local cafe, which I really like. I love being out with my laptop while I write.
