Why this book and why now?
I met one of the characters in this book when I was just starting to write my very first book, Burned. Even though I wasn’t ready to tell her story yet, Abey Lee was a bright spot in my imagination. I wrote my first 5 cowboy romances (4 MF and 1 MM), and Abey waited patiently until I was ready to move on from Cade Ranch to the surrounding town of Wisper, Wyoming, which is where she lives and is a deputy for the sheriff’s department. Once I was ready to write the Cade Ranch small-town spin-off series, Wisper Dreams, I met a new character in book 2 of that series, Devo. I knew she was meant for Abey Lee, and their story took off. Their book is the fourth in the Wisper Dreams series and it’s one of my favorites.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Oh yeah. Devo and I would be like this 🤞🏻. I would 100% egg her on and get us both into trouble. And Abey Lee would definitely be my secret crush.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Devo is a trash TV girl through and through. She’d probably watch The Kardashians or The Real Housewives or something. Plus, I could totally picture her loving Ice Road Truckers.
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Abey Lee would want chili (with cheese and crackers), hockey romance paperbacks, and her ATV. Chili from Jose’s Diner is her favorite food. It’s a no brainer. And she’s recently joined a romance book club at the Wisper library and she LOVES hockey, so that’s an easy one. And then she’d want her blue mud baby because it’s fun to ride and she could use it to drag logs to build a shelter.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Cappuccino. Devo loves them because she says they taste silky. I myself would prefer a coconut latte, hot, no whipped cream. 😉
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Abey would choose a Taylor Swift song. She’s a closet Swiftie, but she’s learning to allow herself this indulgence. Devo would pick The Joke by Brandi Carlile because it’s badass and it means something, and every single thing Devo does has meaning for women or the LGBTQIA+ community!
