Why this book and why now?
I’ve been writing for many years and after battling with imposter syndrome about my unreleased drafts, I decided that maybe now was the time to try and write something shorter just for the fun of it and I instantly fell in love with the novella format! I decided that sticking to something short would maybe be a low-risk way to test out this whole author thing and I don’t regret it one bit!
The inspiration came from when I was watching a Mirvish theatre production and thought about how it would feel to see a significant other on the stage. The idea for a new story was instantly born.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
I think my main character (Gabriella) and I would get along but she’s more closed off than I am. I can also be very risk averse but I am definitely not secretive about my feelings like she is. I would relate more to Jenna in terms of personality, but I am definitely not a talented actress like she is.
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
A first aid kit, a laptop, and a way to set up electricity. Gabriella is too practical not to want a first aid kit but she would definitely consider a laptop as a must to keep herself entertained… assuming she can successfully get electricity running!
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.
Gabriella is not the best at planning a romantic moment but she would totally text her friends for help, at which point they would suggest a quiet night in with all of Jenna’s favourite things after a hard day at work.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan – I don’t think she necessarily relates to the idea in the song currently (maybe a past version of her would!) but she would think it’s a total banger that needs to be shared.
