Why this book and why now?
I wanted to write a holiday book, but while I enjoy Christmas I’ve never been into Christmas stories. The next adjacent holiday was New Year’s Eve, which seemed more unique for a book. I’ve always loved Hawaii and recently started surfing, and New Year’s Eve in Honolulu sounded like a fun setting. But there was something missing. I’d been reading more sci-fi lately and when I came across the movie “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things” inspiration struck: a time loop romance.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
The supporting characters became deeper than I had anticipated as I wrote. There isn’t much about each one in my original outline but they came to life as they muscled their way into the story.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Dawson’s Creek because Joey was her first ever crush. But she tells people it’s because it was filmed near her hometown in North Carolina.
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Surfboard, because if she’s going to be stranded anywhere it’s going to be a beach!
Sunscreen, because Bell knows exactly how harsh the sun can be when you forget to put some one while out on the water for hours.
A copy of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” to remind her of Lola.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
A Pink Bikini cocktail because it plays a part in the book as the drink of choice for Lola. When Bell is stuck in the time loop she always runs into Lola with a Pink Martini in her hand.
