Why this book and why now?

I wanted a character whose self-esteem had been eroded, and who didn’t see herself as beautiful, as successful at fulfilling her own expectations. So Gian was born. There’s one line in the epilogue that I admit warms my heart.

What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?

Usually I like the past to play a big part in my stories. This time everything moved on without as much of the past as I intended.

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

Gian and I could probably commiserate beautifully…for hours.

Do your character names have special significance or meaning?

In the book I mention the heroine’s name, Gian, came from a book her mother liked. The name has been with me since I read the book myself, a romantic suspense, when I was a lowly library assistant. The ending was ‘heart in your mouth’ stuff, too.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Gian and her best friend, Maddie, are movie watchers (with appropriate snacks) and bicker about their preferences. I CAN’T THINK STRAIGHT and RED are favourites.

What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?

Gian reads lesbian romances and mysteries, sourced from her bookseller friend, Maddie’s shop. Maddie likes Georgette Heyer Regency romances.

What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?

Flynn, the crush of Gian’s life, skinny cappuccinos and her best friend, Maddie, if she fit in the boat/car/airplane.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

My two are having an inappropriate affair so anything they could have delivered that could be eaten in bed.😀

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

My two characters have unfortunate experiences with alcohol, Gian with colourful cocktails and Flynn with champagne, so I’m sure they’d be sticking to sparkling water.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

There are lots of amazing songs but Kristina Train’s “LOST IN LOVE” is sticking with me at the moment. (From the movie JENNY’S WEDDING) It’s a slow dancing, hold you close, you don’t have to move, oh, and ‘I love you’ song.
