Why this book and why now?

Honestly, I feel like the world has been a darker and darker place recently, and I wanted to cheer people up! I’ve always enjoyed writing comedy, but it took me a while to be confident enough to combine comedy with romance, I think. Add in the fact that Strangers on a Train is a fantastic premise for a film and therefore a book, and The Revenge Plot was just begging to be written. I might regret saying this, but I’d always kind of wished that Strangers on a Train had a better ending, as in both characters completed their murders and went on with their lives. But maybe I’m just a bit twisted like that!

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

I think Elizabeth and I would drive each other crazy because we’re quite similar in our OCD tendencies. I like things neat and tidy and ‘just so,’ and I’m a bit of a control freak (my wife will fully back me up on that). As for Poppy, she’s a lot like a close family member so I know we would get along even if we fought occasionally over lack of organization (and by occasionally I mean at least once a week…).

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Elizabeth binge-watched The Crown and was promptly disgusted with herself (and she could easily spot the mistakes). Secretly, she can’t get enough of royal gossip though, so she’s planning on watching that whole Harry and Meghan documentary later… Poppy isn’t a binge-watcher. She just doesn’t have the attention span. She’s the kind of person that leaves The Office on in the background and comes back four hours later wondering why she doesn’t know what’s going on.

What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?

Ha, good question. Elizabeth is definitely the type to say she loves the classics and if asked would probably say something like Crime and Punishment. Truthfully, she probably adores a good bodice-ripper under the covers at night (but would NEVER tell anyone). Poppy’s favorite book changes hourly, but she’s a big fan of old-school mystery books, Agatha Christie in particular.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

Red wine. Red wine. And more red wine. Oh, and some red wine, please. For some reason this book turned out very red wine-heavy, which is odd because I don’t drink it myself (seriously, it’s like bad grape juice, what’s the point?). Give me a glass of white on the other hand and you might as well just leave the bottle next to me. Elizabeth in particular likes a good glass of red. Poppy will literally drink whatever’s put in front of her, especially if there’s a screw-top involved. After that pivotal karaoke scene, I wasn’t sure that Elizabeth could stomach wine again, but a couple of chapters later she’s all for it, so she’s a stronger woman than I am!

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

That would be Shania Twain’s ‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman.’ Read the book. You’ll understand why.
