Wine has been around for over 9,000 years, and has been so important in some cultures that it was actually worshipped!
The basic process of crushing grapes, pressing, fermenting, and sealing the wine in containers to age appears to have been discovered by many cultures throughout the world around the same time, so there is no one country responsible. France, however, is possibly the best known for wine production, and it was there in 1224 that the first recorded wine tasting was hosted. Americans consumed 1.1 billion gallons of wine in 2021 alone! Today we celebrate by featuring three sapphic books set in a vineyard or wine shop.
