Let’s party like it’s 1999!
You know what’s great about that opening sentence? Not only is the year 1999 retro in itself, but so is the music of the late, great Prince, whose song 1999 was actually released in 1982. In fact, the whole point of National Retro Day is to spend a little time reliving the bygone eras of your choosing. Do you wish you’d been a flower child in the 1960s, or always dreamed of going to a speakeasy in the 1920s? Whatever your favorite time period, embrace it!
Today, TB the history nerd was allowed to choose the books. After being told that books about Nazis (the time period she specialized in for grad school) were maybe not quite festive enough for the spirit of the day, she opted for sapphic books from the Victorian era (the Gilded Age being a close second for her when it comes to historical obsession). We hope you enjoy!
