Why this book and why now?
Like many of my ideas for stories, I fell in love with the book cover design. I saw this image of a woman lying on a couch, and the wheels started to turn and the story idea came to me. I’m a true fan of the movie, “The Big Easy,” and wanted to incorporate NOLA somehow into the story, and the rest is history.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
It started off with one topic and then grew into even more topics than I had originally imagined. Initially, it was just a second chance story then it evolved into a story about gender discrimination, reinventing oneself, a coming out of sorts, and arranged marriages.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Yes, definitely! Kitrina is a type A and a caregiver. She’s very protective of her family and friends, and so am I. Although Kathryn is a little more meek and mild, she also is protective of those she loves, just in a gentler sort of way.
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
Their nickname came to me first (KitKat), and then I decided upon their real names Kitrina and Kathryn. I also thought it would be interested for a “Kitrina” to visit NOLA. I play on that reference a few times in the book.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
They would binge watch old seasons of The L Word and the new The L Word Generation Q seasons.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Kitrina’s favorite book is Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: A Savannah Story because she loves a good salacious true crime story. Kathryn’s favorite book is Jane Eyre because she resonates with the character’s desire for freedom and being a strong survivor.
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Of course, they’d enjoy being stranded together. Kitrina loves pastries and artisan bread (ciabatta, brioche, and focaccia) even though she doesn’t indulge much in them. Kathryn would definitely prefer a few bottles of sparkling wine, her favorite being Moscato d’Asti.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.
If Kitrina was planning a romantic night for Kathryn, she would take her to a remote wellness location, which is also part bed and breakfast, surrounded by a beautiful garden of exotic flowers and vegetation. They would have a couple’s massage by moonlight and candles in the gazebo located at the far end of the garden. After their massage, they’d spend the evening enjoying delicious vegan cuisine and sparkling wine. Then they’d stay for the rest of the night in the lover’s suite, and work off that well deserved meal.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Kitrina would celebrate with a glass of KATHERINE GOLDSCHMIDT CABERNET. This red wine could be enjoyed at Seven Lamps around Lenox Square, a restaurant that Kitrina dined at with her best friend, Craig, in the story. Kathryn would tease her by accusing her of settling for a taste of the wine since she couldn’t get a taste of the original (being her). LOL! And also, because Kitrina doesn’t hold her liquor well.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Kathryn would put on “The Perfect Pair” by beabadoobee. Because the song perfectly describes their rollercoaster love affair.
