Why this book and why now?
Candy, Sweat, and Regret is the third book in my series The Pussycat Chronicles. The book was mostly about the pink-haired ninja Miyu, her backstory, her love for Sakura (the feminine lead), and her rivalry with Koharu (the butch lead) for Sakura’s affections. This book actually reveals a key element in Koharu and Sakura’s (somewhat destructive) relationship. Because of Miyu’s actions, all the pieces fall into place for both Koharu and Sakura, and they remember what happened one year ago, before their memories were wiped. Of course, fighting and bickering ensue.
Would you and your main character(s) get along? Why, or why not?
I think Miyu is a chill person, so yes. She is very laidback, very forgiving (sometimes to her own detriment), and secretly sweet, even while pretending to be a party girl who doesn’t care about love. She cares very much about Sakura and about her friends and loves more than anyone else in the series, which is the entire reason she’s a drug addict. (Now you know what “candy” refers to in the title.)
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
Miyu’s name means “beautiful and gentle.” Unlike her butchy, muscular cyborg friends, who smash through walls and snap necks with their bare hands, Miyu is small, tomboyish, and a ninja, which ultimately makes her gentler by comparison. In my mind, she is also quite beautiful, with long pink hair and sad blue eyes.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it. What do they do?
Miyu is a party girl. She doesn’t “do” romance. Miyu’s idea of a fun night is getting drunk and/or high, whipping out sex toys, and going to town on every hot girl she can.
