Why this book and why now?
There’s already an entire series featuring Carter Forbes and Penny Elliot, and giving them one more story had been the plan for a while. My wife and I had often discussed the way Borderline ended, and we felt there was more to tell. Also, since I’m retiring this pen name, it was time for a big finale!
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
It has fewer COVID-19 references than I thought. Right now, we’re in a different place then we were when I first started writing it.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
I hope so! My wife and I would love to hang out with Penny & Carter. I think we’d agree on politics in general. Their lifestyle is quite different though, but I’d like to imagine we’d have intriguing conversations.
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
The billionaire’s last name is Forbes, so I guess that’s a yes for this one.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Anything with action and sapphic couples. So, NCIS Hawaii or Station 19.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Because even if they don’t take things that far, they’d understand the sentiment.
Aside from the obvious food and shelter, what 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Probably a computer, to keep working. Handcuffs (you have to read to know why). A favorite book, if it was Penny.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it. What do they do?
If it’s Carter, then she’d plan a night away in a different city. Penny would go for an outing under the stars, or a stay at a small cozy inn where they’d be incognito.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book!
Definitely champagne or a champagne cocktail. These two are all about doing good, and then having no guilt about enjoying life.
