Why this book and why now?

My love for camp sci-fi is only matched by my love of legal procedurals, preferably the ones with fiercely intelligent women in sharp suits. So my story Trash Planet Confidential is a mash-up of genre, a legal drama with an enemies-to-lovers twist set on a space station known as a garbage dump. I loved creating a noir-ish backdrop for my opposites-attract main characters to bond in.

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

My main character Vio is terrifyingly smart and practical, which are two of my favourite qualities because I’m not much of either. I think she’d put up with me as long as I kept buying the drinks and getting her to talk about case law and social justice, which I would love.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Onyez would be a Suits fan but Vio would get frustrated with the lack of proper legal form. Vio’s binge watch would be YouTube videos of DIY channels, as she likes to be prepared for anything, even though Onyez would point out that she doesn’t even do her own repairs.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

Vio would want to impress Onyez, a fellow lawyer who is from a much more priveleged background, by taking her out to a posh restaurant, but they’d likely both be distracted by work and miss their reservation. So close to midnight they’d end up downtown, in a diner made from literal trash, eating hotdogs made from nothing you’d care to know about.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

If you find yourself in San City, a satellite city at the edge of the galaxy, the local brew is southwater. It’s a murky liquid with a topnote of drain remover and a base of diesel fuel. Fresh fruit is in short supply, so drop a couple of slices of dehydrated orange and a chunk of glucose supplement, and make sure you drink in dim light across from someone who makes your heart beat louder than the sounds of the rusty pipes.
