Why this book and why now?

Like many ADHD-ers, I have tons of unfinished projects cluttering up the place. This was a personal challenge to Just. Complete. One. Thing. I wrote something every day. Sometimes it was one line, sometimes it was a whole scene. I never set a specific end goal, which kept the pressure off. I eventually had enough material to stitch together into a coherent story. Then I started editing something every day.

What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?

It was originally a story about an undercover detective investigating a murder in the BDSM scene, but all of these funny lines kept sneaking in and totally blowing the drama. It occurred to me that there was plenty of nastiness in the real world, so why not create a fun, fluffy romp? This is supposed to be escapism, after all.

What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?

Any Harlequin-esque love story, because she’s a capital-R Romantic with a penchant for melodramatic dialogue.

What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?

A chem lab, because being stranded is the perfect opportunity for pure research. A companion of some sort, human or animal, because she’s happiest when she can take care of someone else. An e-reader fully-stocked with Romance novels.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

“Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince. I got my mother’s taste in music, so 80s tunes make a couple of appearances in the book. You can’t listen to that song without jamming, so it’s perfect celebration energy.
