Here are Emily’s top sapphic reads of 2023:

1. The Headmistress by Milena McKay

This book succeeded 110% in being the kind of story where you can feel everything the MC is feeling. Not only that, but as a reader, you’re immersed into the story as if you’re actually in it. This book will have you rooting for the love that you hope will prevail, and it will tease that HEA in nearly every way that it can, without giving anything away until the end. Only truly amazing stories have the power to give anyone a book hangover and this story absolutely surpasses that lever of amazing.

2. The Delicate Things We Make by Milena McKay

Milena is a master in the craft of making you feel so many emotions at once while reading her books. This one will have you at the edge of your seat, unable to put the story down until you know exactly how it ends, and then you will feel morose at the story actually being over. Milena McKay is the kind of author that will make you feel extremely lucky to be alive at the same time as she, but also extremely sad that you couldn’t have discovered her writing many years into the future when there would undoubtedly be MANY more stories for you to read instead of having to wait for her next amazing novel.

3. Future Wife by Nicole Pyland

This book is amazing because it combines what some people would believe to be a myth, with actual science and reason, while also being a beautiful romance story. This book will have you questioning what happens next, and you don’t get to figure it out until the MC does, which is always a nice surprise.

4. Those Who Wait by Haley Cass

TWW is one of the first stories to give me a book hangover this year and it wasn’t for one reason alone. Throughout the entire story, you’ll find yourself asking questions as if you’re one of the MCs yourself, or you’ll be making your own hopeful guesses as the reader. The love story here is so real and deep, and with all the twists in the storyline, you truly have no idea how it will end. But when it does end, your heart will feel full.

5. Forever and a Day by Haley Cass

I love, love LOVE that this story spans DECADES full of love, success, and happiness between two amazing people and their new family. This story is a part 2 of one of my favorite stories (TWW) and unlike other books where you wonder how the MCs lives will look in a few years, this story tells you exactly how the MCs lives look for the rest of their lives. It is so beautifully written, so heartwarming, just overall such an amazing story that I wish never had to end.
