Why this book and why now?
I didn’t know if I would write again, so I went to visit my aunt, a painter, in Tucson last December. One of the discussions was about Winterhaven, a community that has an enormous Festival of Lights every year. After some follow up research, the draft started.
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
I wanted a play on words. When I think of Christmas writings, the first one that comes to mind is A Christmas Carol. That made the connections for me, but I knew I couldn’t have two characters referred to in the book by the same first name or readers would go bonkers. So, there’s Karol and CJ, whose real name is Carol Christmas Joy.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
I’d imagine they would have the Hallmark holiday movies running 24/7. Also, they would probably participate in an American baking show, since the community is known for the best gingerbread cookies ever.
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Karol and CJ would take: gingerbread cookies, CJ’s dog, Houston, and Karol’s dog Manhattan (aka Manny). Manny might be lonely, though, without his “girlfriend,” a reindeer named Mo.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
