Why this book and why now?

I had just finished my second book in a YA portal fantasy series, called The Seeking, when I decided I needed to take a break and write something fun and light. The idea for my main character, Rei, just came to me as I was scrolling on Pinterest. When I started writing what ended up becoming Between Mischief & Magic, I realized it only made sense for the book to be a cozy, sapphic story. I’m so glad I listened to my heart on this one, because the story came out just as it should have. I’m very proud of my characters and their story.

Do your character names have special significance or meaning?

The names that just come to me don’t have any significance other than feeling right, but the names I do research for do tend to have meanings specific to the character’s personality. Rei, for example, popped into my head and felt perfect for her. Amora, on the other hand, means love.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

If TV existed in Rei’s time, she would binge Lost Girl because it’s a show about a bisexual half-succubus that doesn’t feel like she belongs. Rei would most definitely relate to this TV show!

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

Rei would plan a dinner for Amora under a willow tree at sunset. She doesn’t like to admit it, but it’s her favorite time of day. And she knows how much Amora loves a picnic!

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

Rei would absolutely be breaking out Toddi’s magical red wine to celebrate the release of her and Amora’s story. Amora would be eager to drink with her but in no way could she keep up with Rei’s demon tolerance.
