When the end of the year drew near, we had one question we wanted to ask book lovers the world over. What were your top 5 sapphic reads of 2023?

Luckily our readers like to share! We look forward to passing along these recommendations to you daily into the new year.

Here are Mike’s top sapphic reads of 2023:

1. A Degree to Die For by Karis Walsh

Karis builds tension well in a realistic police drama. She perfectly captures the hostile competitive politics of academia. There is a romance between women from WAY different backgrounds but Karis makes feel natural in the context of the story. Thier emotional and physical connections work.

2. Hunter’s Revenge by Gerri Hill

Gerri Hill does everything right.

3. Transitory by J. M. Redmann

Long ago Redmann created Micky Knight, a P.I. in New Orleans. I think Transitory is the 11th in the seriers. All the books are suspenseful and you end up rooting and loving Micky with her many ups, downs and sideways moves. New Orleans is also a character in the series. Redmann masterfully creates original plots and complicated relationships.

4. The Purrfect Gift by Jae

One of the main characters is a cat who is a little too smart for being a cat. But this is a Holiday romance, so sweet you stop being skeptical. The cat makes it fun. As do the women’s attraction.

5. Observations on the Danger of Female Curiosity by Suzanne Moss

A smart independent scientist struggles with male power at a time when women were not allowed to even attend scientific lectures. And love between women could ruin the reputations of entire families. If you admire Anne Lister, you willl enjoy the characters in this novel.
