Why this book and why now?

The Grace Notes Trilogy features three sapphic romances in the orbit of country star Savannah Grace. When it came to writing a prequel, I thought, what could be more of a fun introduction to this series than to see it all through the eyes of a fan? Big stadium shows and epic road trips to get there are on the whole world’s minds right now, so I wanted to capture that excited buzz of how it feels to get to finally see an artist who means everything to you.

I think we can all relate to the feeling that an artist who we deeply love can really say something about who we are on the inside, or that listening to music can open up whole worlds inside us we might not otherwise access.

I also love a good road trip narrative: all that scope for bonding and getting to know someone during hundreds of scenic miles outside of town. So, what if the person in the driver’s seat was actually your secret crush you’d been too afraid to really talk to before? And what if… there was only one bed?

Would you and your main character(s) get along?

Oh, I think so! I dedicated this story to chaotic anxious gays everywhere and…well, Maggie did not come out of nowhere? She’s definitely younger me in a lot of ways so I spent most of the writing of this story really wanting to give her a giant cuddle. I don’t know that she’d appreciate that, to be honest!

What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?

Her headphones, her entire Spotify on download and probably a notebook to scratch out all her apprehensive romantic longings.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

This is for sure the first time she’s ever planned a romantic night with anyone, so it’s going to be elaborate, gorgeous and incredibly over-thought, with every detail in place and a hundred contingency plans just in case. Then, at the last minute, she’s going to scrap the whole thing for fear of looking stupid and turn up saying “um, I thought we could maybe…go for pizza?” She’ll look super cute doing it though, so her date will totally be stoked.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

Oh it’s a chai latte for sure. Caffeine makes her super nervous and she does not want to babble in front of all these people!

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

‘Open Window’ by Savannah Grace. No you can’t listen to it because it doesn’t exist, but it definitely changed Maggie’s whole life forever.
