Why this book and why now?

This book is an exciting romp back into the early 90s, full of intrigue, twists, romance, and yearning. It’s chock full of fun tropes like age gap, found family, secret identity, and even a college student/professor relationship (but… not in the creepy way).

What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?

Not to bring up spoilers, but there’s a bit of a time jump in the last chapter. In the final version, every chapter is from the main character Annie’s point of view, but originally, that last chapter came from her love interest, Helen. While it was a little jarring after spending the whole book with Annie, I think there was a bit of added closure finally getting to hear some of Helen’s thoughts.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Annie’s would be M*A*S*H because she grew up watching it with her military dad. Helen’s would be the Mary Tyler Moore show.

What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?

Helen, a native Californian, would love Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion. Annie would probably love Shirley Jackson (don’t we all?) and I think would connect to Hangsaman being where she is in her life right now.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

I mean, OBVIOUSLY Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson. Annie are you okay? Are you okay, Annie? (Narrator: she was not.)
