Why this book and why now?
This story has languished on my laptop since NANO three years ago, and my parrot said it was time to finish the story with the traveling avian pet.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
In the first concept, Stacy and her parrot Paco traveled the country in her RV playing music along the way. During a binge writing session, Stacy ran into a friend from a high school sports camp and the whole plot went west on me. It was better to focus on the humans, since dialogue with a bird, hilarious as it can be, is limited.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Stacy loves the last remaining book from the Time Life encyclopedia set that her grandma gifted her when she was in high school. She loaned the others out over the years, or as she says gifted them away, except the one with the note abuela wrote inside the cover.
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Her acoustic guitar, a book on the stars, and a roll of antacids. She can’t live without music, doesn’t remember constellations, and has constant heartburn.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
We all know Stacy doesn’t drink, but 2K would heartily offer one of my favorites, a frozen nipple…Three large scoops of vanilla ice cream, equal parts dark rum and buttershots.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Of course, Stacy has a Spotify list for the book, but if forced to select just one song it would be “I’ve Got the Music in Me” by Kiki Dee. It’s a classic, toe tapping power anthem that gets people dancing and we all need to remember to keep moving and not to let life get us down.
