Why this book and why now?

This book had been mulling around in the back of my mind for about a year before I had time to write it. I was busily preoccupied with my previous release, ‘Say Their Names’, and of course, real life sometimes gets in the way of the fun stuff.

Do your character names have special significance or meaning?

The book is set in Hawaii and one of the main characters is named Kalena Kealohilani (now that’s a mouthful!). ‘Kalena’ is the Hawaiian version of the name ‘Karen’. I strongly believe all authors write themselves into each of their books, so you might ask if Kalena is me. I would say no, because she is much more butch than I am…and significantly younger! LOL! The other main character, Piper, is more like me.

What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?

Kalena would want Piper with her, as well as her shrine to Laka, the Hawaiian Goddess of Love and Compassion, and of course, a length of chain! You’ll have to read the book to discover the significance of the chain! LOL!

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

A long romantic walk on the beach while the sun sets, followed by making love on a blanket in the sand with a bonfire nearby providing light and warmth.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

They would both drink a cocktail called Blue Hawaii, a mixture of Rum, vodka, blue curacao, pineapple juice and a sweet and sour mix. This is the drink they enjoyed together on their first date. It was recommended to Piper by Kalena.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

Anything Hawaiian and appropriate for Hula dancing. Kalena is pretty butch and wouldn’t be caught dead hula dancing, but Piper would definitely oblige–especially if it sparks a certain level of ‘interest’ from Kalena. They would choose this because the book is set in Hawaii and Hawaii holds a special place in my heart. It was the venue for the first vacation I had with my own love, Bliss. We both fell in love with Kauai, and a planned trip next March, will be our fifth visit there.
