Why this book and why now?

I missed the characters from my debut novel Round Trip. So, I yanked a side character from that novel, gave her a love interest, and wrote another book!

What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?

I’m a pantser. I discover the story as I go. My first drafts are a cluster of ideas that normally have very little plot and not a lot to do with the finished book. First drafts are how I get to know my characters. Once I know them, then I know where to take them in the second draft.

What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?

Since both main characters get locked in a large art installation in Under the Rainbow, this one is easy to answer. Joleen is worried about food, about being stuck with a woman she hates, and she’s afraid of the dark, and does not have her phone or a flashlight.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

I’m going to buy a large bottle of carrot juice. A boring answer, but it’s the truth.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

Without a doubt, Devi puts on ‘Pussy is God‘. She loves to dance to this song. The music has a great beat, she says.

Meet D.A. Hartman

Day, aka D.A. Hartman, is a non-award-winning sapphic fiction author who writes about beautifully flawed characters who tend to be happier than society thinks they should be. Being hyperactive with extreme dyslexia, Day avoided reading and writing at all costs. She dropped out of the eighth grade and fled to the unjudgemental streets of Hollywood California at fourteen where she quickly escaped the world of words with drugs and alcohol. At the age of thirty, after driving a stolen vehicle into the Colorado River, she woke up in a hospital begging for change, no, not money, a change in attitude about her evil nemesis, WORDS. Now Day embraces her mispronunciation and stumbling over of words and writes lesbian romance with a twist of her past and a smile.
