Why this book and why now?

For The 1000th Time was meant to be a 20k word novella for a reader magnet, but as I got further into the heart of the story, Abi informed me that stopping there would be an injustice. She needed more time to make Tess fall in love with her, and Tess needed more time to overcome her hurdles. You can’t rush the journey to self-love or the obstacles people face when suffering from anxiety, and I can only hope Tess and Abi touch a lot of hearts.

What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?

Two big things changed since the first draft. One, Tess and her sister Taunya had a brother, Connor. Sadly, there just wasn’t enough story for him to stay. And two, Taunya used to be the antagonist.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Tess doesn’t watch a lot of TV, but occasionally she’ll watch shows about small home hacks or documentaries about her favorite musicians. Sometimes Abi will convince her to watch The L Word, or The L Word Next Generation, but she secretly hates doing so.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

Abi would take the lead on this one by convincing Tess to first take her for a ride on her Ducati. She’d make up an excuse to stop off at the pub where one of Tess’s favorite cover bands were playing.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

Tess and Abi would celebrate with a couple cans of Molson Canadian beer.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

Tess would put on Beautiful Day by U2. She can play it on her acoustic guitar, and she likes the message in the song about finding joy in your life no matter what you go through.

Meet Jen-Lea Mercy

Hiya, nice to meet you!

One thing you should know about me is I’m a huge, socially awkward book nerd who needs to ship characters or I get bored. I’m a lover of all types of sapphic romance and have a weakness for dominating ice queens and slightly unhinged fictional women. Buuut I also have a sweet, romantic side and can swoon over small-town gals, so long as in whatever I’m reading the spice is medium to red-hot!

Interests that don’t include reading, writing, or daydreaming about future WIPs include: plenty of coffee, mood-music listening on Spotify, binge-watching episodes of Yellowstone, and watching the latest Gal Gadot or Cate Blanchett film.

I’m also a hybrid author under the pen name Angel Jendrick, where I’ve recently published a teen sapphic romance titled Secret Me and prior to that, my gritty contemporary Claiming Kristopher series. I live in Eastern Canada with my wife and kids but hold an unfathomable adoration for Vancouver.
