Why this book and why now?

I got the idea for this book when I found myself single after many years and having a (rather disastrous) adventure in online dating. I wanted to tell the story of someone in their forties trying something new, and getting a second chance at happiness.

Do your character names have special significance or meaning?

Kiera’s love interest is Seymour, who is named after the cannibalistic plant in the musical Little Shop of Horrors. You can find out more about why her parents called her that in the book, but I loved using that name out of context, in a character who is actually pretty quiet and reserved.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Grey’s Anatomy. The lead character, Kiera, works in a hospital, and loves shouting at medical dramas when they get the details wrong. She also has a crush on Meredith Grey – and rightly so.

What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?

She loves all sorts of books, and is currently working her way through the Agatha Christie Miss Marples. But her most recent favourite is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. She’s a fan of a twisty story (oblivious of being in her own), and both Christie and Reid provide just that.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

Well, Kiera would have any kind of delicious artisan coffee, probably a flat white. She’s a coffee snob and enjoys sitting in cafes pretending to be mysterious. (Reader, she is not).

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

Flowers by Miley Cyrus
