Meet Emma the dog

Meet Emma! Emma loves to hang around her people, as close as possible. But when she’s told to get off the couch and go to her bed she gets upset. This is her “emotional blackmail” face 🙂 I house-sit for her parents every year and each time she gets me to surrender and I give her a snack. Wouldn’t you? Submitted by Shani, a sapphic reader.

QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE

It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.

This week’s good news involves Kamala Harris.

Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, was recently in Texas. In Houston, she gave a speech at the American Federation of Teachers national convention, which is the second largest labor union of teachers in the USA.

She said, “In 2004, on Valentine’s Day weekend, I was one of the first elected officials in the country to perform same-sex marriages.” Harris continued, “It pains me so to think that, 20 years later, there are young teachers in their twenties who are afraid to put up a photograph of themselves and their partner for fear they could lose their job.” If elected, she promises to fight for queer rights, asserting, “Every American should be free from bigotry and hate.”

She also wants to fight book bans.

“We face a choice between two very different visions for our nation. One focused on the future, and the other on the past. And we are for the future.”

Here’s to hoping for a brighter future.

Read more about it here.

That’s all for today.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
