Every week, we’ll provide five clues about a sapphic author. This game helps readers get to know their favorite authors while having fun.

Here is today’s clue:

Clue #5: I like to write books that mirror my life experiences, and being that I’m mixed race and butch, my books will almost always feature interracial fem/masc couples.

Random Things:

5 Random Things Ally McGuire graphic

5 Random Things is our way of helping readers to get to know top sapphic book authors all the while having a bit of fun.

Here are five random facts about Ally McGuire.

1. I sit with my foot on the desk while I type. It’s an incredibly awkward angle and often leaves me with pins and needles, but it’s the most comfortable thing in the world when I’m writing.

2. We have a rule when we’re out: if you pick up a stuffed animal, it has to come home with you. Otherwise it will feel like it isn’t good enough, and we can’t have that. So we only pick one up if we’re going to take it home.

3. I can’t stand the sound of crumpling plastic. When my wife squishes a plastic bottle for the recycling, I have to leave the room. It’s like someone making me chew tin foil.

4. I like to compliment people. Randomly and out of nowhere, which in the UK can be very strange, as people here are more reserved. Eyes, shirts, hair color… whatever it is, I’ll mention it. And that often leads to an awkward silence after. So be it.

5. I decided as a child I wanted to learn to play the accordion. Bless my mom, she got me lessons. Have you ever heard a child learning to play? You don’t want to.

Before buying a “free” book, please ensure it’s free in your marketplace. Amazon has a habit of changing the price of permafree titles in stores outside of the US. Please know this it out of the author’s control and we are unable to check prices in all Amazon stores.

Some of the books are only free today, February 21, 2025, so don’t miss out!

QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE

It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.

This week’s good news involves a Magic: The Gathering YouTuber.

Magic: The Gathering YouTuber Tolarian Community College raised over $500,000 for Trans Lifeline, a peer-led crisis hotline supporting transgender individuals.

Named as a play on “The Tolarian Academy”—a prominent university in Magic: The Gathering lore—the channel has grown into YouTube’s largest Magic-focused platform and was the first of its kind to surpass one million subscribers.

Since 2020, former English instructor Brian Lewis has used his platform as the creator of YouTube’s largest Magic: The Gathering channel to organize annual fundraisers for Trans Lifeline.

That’s all for today.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
