As the year comes to a close, we have one burning question for book lovers everywhere: What were your top 5 sapphic reads of 2025?

Luckily our readers like to share! We look forward to passing along these recommendations to you daily into the new year.

It’s not too late to submit your own top reads and get in on the fun. Click here for the form. Our only rules are that authors may not submit their own books and your list needs to be new-to-you books that were read (not necessarily published) in 2025.

Here are Isabel’s top sapphic reads of 2025:

1. Midnight Rain by Haley Cass

I’m often skeptical of re-tellings/parallel universes but Haley Cass truly knocked this out of the park. It almost rivaled the original Those Who Wait. The chemistry is unreal, the characters have depth and the storyline was expertly crafted to incorporate just enough details from the original.

2. The Finest Line by Tegan Kane

I decidedly did not consider myself a huge sci-fi/dystopian theme fan but The Finest Line (and the other two books in the trilogy) were incredible. I loved that the setting was a city we know just in the future, and there wasn’t a lot of world learning necessary. I was kept on my toes the entire time with an exciting, and at times heart-wrenching plot. I could not put this series down and ended up reading all three in 4 days.

3. Ribbonwood by Ruby Landers

I loved the intricacies of the characters in this book. The level of feminist bad-assery in addition to intense chemistry and great spice made this book un-put-downable. It was a really compelling way to think about people who are perceived a particular way (especially women) and peel back the layers to understand that rumors are just rumors and there’s often so much more than meets the eye.

4. Bloom Town: Genesis by Ally North

This book truly made me feel the entire spectrum of human emotion while also dishing out some of the best spicy scenes I’ve read to date. I love the evolution of Joey and Abby’s relationship, and the subtle nuances that add a lot of depth to the plot.

5. Here We Go Again by Alison Cochran

I love how much this book made me laugh just to turn around and make me ugly cry. The interplay of how challenging it is to watch someone you love deteriorate and have to say goodbye with the messy, confusing feelings that come with feeling things for someone you a. thought you knew and b. were convinced you hated was expertly written. There are so many light, hilarious moments peppered throughout the road trip, and I really felt like I was along for the ride with the characters.

Meet Isabel

I’m currently a PhD student in Sociology and for the last few years I’ve exclusively been reading sapphic romances (outside of my academic reads) in order to dissociate from my dissertation. I had essentially stopped reading for pleasure until I read my first sapphic romance in August 2024 (The Senator’s Wife by Jen Lyon, still one of my all time favorites).
