It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.
This week’s good news involves Episcopalians in the South
Last Saturday, the Southern United States’ first openly lesbian Episcopal bishop was formally installed as the ninth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina.
The Rev. Sarah Fisher, 54, secured election to the position last November, winning a simple majority on the third ballot. Over recent decades, the Episcopal Church has taken increasingly inclusive steps toward LGBTQ+ people. In 2015, the Episcopal General Convention overwhelmingly approved a measure allowing same-sex couples to marry in Episcopal churches.
