Clue #5: As research for writing the magical battles in my novels, I attempted to watch a few of my favorite fighting scenes. I ended up getting distracted and “accidently” binge watched several anime series instead.

5 Random Things is our way of helping readers to get to know top sapphic book authors all the while having a bit of fun.
Here are five random facts about Jackie L. Disch.
1. I have an MS in Parapsychic Science.
2. When I was 50 and my wife, Katy, was 62, we went zip lining for the first time ever, rappelled down into a cavern and then snorkeled through underwater caves for our 15th anniversary.
3. I was told in high school that I wasn’t college material, so I didn’t even try to do so. When I turned 30, I went to a 4-year college, got a BA in Psychology and was accepted into graduate school for clinical psychology.
4. When I was a baby-dyke, I worked for five years in an auto repair shop owned and operated by my parents. I helped with bookkeeping and did some work on cars in the shop.
5. I love penguins, turtles, ravens, hawks, pigs and elephants. Not necessarily in that order!
Have you read Losing Katy yet?

Before buying a “free” book, please ensure it’s free in your marketplace. Amazon has a habit of changing the price of permafree titles in stores outside of the US. Please know this it out of the author’s control and we are unable to check prices in all Amazon stores.
Some of the books are only free today, June 26, 2026, so don’t miss out!

Meet Jupe! In the morning, our dog Jupe launches herself at 25 mph after anything that moves in the wild. By nightfall, this 50-pound missile turns into a cuddly lap dog. Submitted by Cade Strong, a sapphic author.
Today’s post is also sponsored by Sally Brooks. Please check out The Barcelona Bakery.

QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE
It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.
This week’s good news involves Florida.
Two cities in Florida are getting creative to showcase rainbows. If you don’t remember, the governor demanded that rainbow crosswalks be removed.
The city steps of St. Petersburg city hall are now painted in the colors of the Progress Pride flag.
Fort Lauderdale recently unveiled a rainbow-colored “Circle of Love” installation at the Selene condominiums near Sebastian Street Beach, a well-known LGBTQ+ beach destination.
We love seeing more rainbows in the world!

That’s all for today.
Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
