A Whisper in the Storm
By Nicole Higginbotham-Hogue
Everything was destroyed except for their love.
When a weather warning indicates that a hurricane is going to hit the city Milo Landry is living in, she drops everything that she is doing, and she leaves town. Unfortunately, after doing this, she realizes that she left everyone she loves back home to deal with the aftermath. Feeling guilty, she makes it back to town only to find that her home has been demolished and her job is no longer there. Milo must find a way to rebuild her life under her sister’s roof while learning what it truly means to be there for her community.
Upon taking a job at a restoration company, Milo meets Vic, a woman that is not only selfless but rough around the edges. At first, the two of them don’t mesh, but as they are forced into situations where they have to cooperate, the two finally start to see each other for who they really are. Sparks fly, and eventually, a romance blossoms between the two of them.
However, a situation arises that begins to tear them apart, and Milo is tasked with having to put her own needs to the side in order to care for others. Will Milo be able to grow enough as a person to realize that the true meaning of community is being there when its easier to run away, or will she focus on herself, disregarding the community and the lover that helped her when she had nothing?
